Journalist Ciku Muiruri Recounts Harrowing Week, Shares Forgiveness For Daughter’s Abductors

Erica Muiruri, daughter of media personality Ciku Muiruri, and her friend Shannyce Agose were kidnapped in Nairobi after requesting a taxi using the Bolt app. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Sh250,000 for each of them. Ciku received a message informing her of the kidnapping and turned to prayer for guidance. After weeks of uncertainty, the two women were found by police in Kiambu County. Ciku has forgiven the abductor and believes her prayers may have prevented harm from coming to her daughter. Erica is still traumatized from the ordeal. Ciku criticizes Bolt for blaming the victim and calls for better safety measures from ride-hailing apps. Bolt claims that the two men involved were not drivers for their app but had rented a profile to accept the request.
