Missile Attacks Target Kyiv During African Leaders’ Visit

Ukraine successfully defended against a wave of Russian missiles, including hypersonic Kinzhals, over the Kyiv region where African leaders were scheduled to hold peace talks. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that these missile attacks from Russia are a clear message that they want war instead of peace. The Ukrainian Air Force reported destroying six Kinzhals, six Kalibr cruise missiles, and two reconnaissance drones. All of these were intercepted over the Kyiv region. While there was no damage in Kyiv, an explosion from air defense was reported in the central Podil district. Kuleba accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of launching this large missile attack during the visit of African leaders to Kyiv as a way to undermine confidence. Despite this incident, the South African presidency confirmed that their mission is proceeding as planned and they are awaiting talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky. The presidents of South Africa, Senegal, Zambia, and the Comoros; along with representatives from Uganda, Egypt, and Congo-Brazzaville were set to participate in these talks. Additionally, part of the delegation visited Bucha on Friday morning, which is the site of an alleged massacre by Russian troops.
