Twenty-five people have been killed in a terrorist attack on a school in western Uganda by fighters from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militia, which is aligned with the Islamic State. The ADF attacked a secondary school near Bwera, burning a dormitory and looting a food store. Eight victims are in critical condition at Bwera Hospital. The army and police are pursuing the attackers towards Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where the ADF is based. Originally insurgents in Uganda, the ADF gained a foothold in eastern DRC in the 1990s and has been accused of killing thousands of civilians. Some ADF attacks since 2019 have been claimed by the Islamic State group as part of its local offshoot, the Islamic State Central Africa Province.
