Nairobi, Kenya – Jane Marriott, the former British High Commissioner to Kenya, has been appointed as the new high commissioner to Pakistan.

The announcement was made by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on Thursday.

Marriott replaces Will Turner who will be leaving now that a new high commissioner has been set.

She is expected to take up her appointment in July 2023.

Marriott brings with her a wealth of experience having previously served as the British Ambassador to Yemen from 2013 to 2015.

She also held the position of Director of the Joint International Counter-Terrorism Unit from 2016 to 2019 before assuming her duties as the British High Commissioner to Kenya in 2019.

Speaking about her new appointment, Marriott said: “I am honored and excited to be taking up this role in Pakistan.

It is a country with a rich history and culture, and I look forward to working closely with its people and government.” Marriott’s appointment comes at a time when relations between Pakistan and the UK are growing stronger.

In recent years, both countries have worked together on issues such as counter-terrorism and trade.

Commenting on Marriott’s appointment, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said: “We welcome Ms Marriott as the new high commissioner to Pakistan.

We look forward to working closely with her in strengthening our bilateral ties.” Marriott’s extensive experience in counter-terrorism is expected to be an asset in her new role given Pakistan’s ongoing efforts against terrorism within its borders.

Overall, Marriott’s appointment is seen as a positive step towards further strengthening ties between Pakistan and the UK.
