Following the adjustments made after the 2022-2023 financial year budget that was recently read, financial institutions are among the companies that would receive a 10-15% raise in excise duty. Among them is M-Pesa. Below is a table of the new 2022 M-Pesa charges.
Following the rise, M-Pesa has also increased its withdrawal charges by an average of 1 shilling. The raise has also been included in charges for sending money and ATM withdrawals.
For instance, they are sending Ksh. 1,001 – 1,500 will now cost Ksh. 26, up from Ksh. 25. Sending to unregistered numbers has increased considerably, especially for more significant sums. Sending 5,001 – 7,500 to an unregistered user is now Ksh. 166, up from Ksh. 143. M-Pesa balance inquiry and changing M-Pesa PIN are now accessible in an exciting development. The two features used previously cost Ksh. 1 and Ksh—22, respectively.
